Scenes from Arizona

As you saw from the delightful guest post a few days ago, I ~~escaped~~ took a trip to visit my parents in Phoenix last week. Carter handled everything at home beautifully (he even went to those teacher conferences I offered to cancel and scheduled a dental appointment for Chloe--talk about going above and beyond!).

Even though I got sick during my stay (which I guess it what happens when you spend two weeks nursing kids with the croup and you finally get a little bit of rest), I loved the warm weather and spending quality time with my family (and the pool and massage chair at their house!). We went to fun restaurants, to the movies, to an amazing mall for some fabulous shopping, and to the pharmacy multiple times (yeah, I was pretty sick). I also got to go to the wedding of a truly wonderful couple and watch my sister be a gorgeous bridesmaid. All in all, the best Spring Break ever!

I was sad to leave the desert paradise my parents had created, but you'd better believe I had one heck of a welcome home from my sweet little family!

Ummmm... your parents' place is amazing! I'm a bit surprised by the modern flair. I love it! Love all the white and the 4 bird pics. Your mom has great taste! And that pool!!!! Do they really need Hawaii? I can only imagine what the Rose Paradise there looks like!

The wedding looked lovely. I'm so glad you got to go and get away. So sorry you were sick. :(

I'm curious for your thoughts on The Adjustment Bureau.

Thanks, Wendy. My mom LOVES modern. She had so much fun decorating the house when they moved there. In fact, she painted those bird pics herself! I wish she would be my interior decorator!!!

And I think I'll do an Adjustment Bureau post later this week . . . I liked it a lot.

Do you know where she got the silver lamp in the last picture in her dining room? I've been looking for one like that for forever for my living room.

My Favorite Chloe-isms

"Sorry we're late. We were playing this really, really, really fun game. It's like time stopped....just for us..."
"I don't know whether to believe reality or fantasy." Chloe, on contemplating the existence of Santa Claus
"I do bath stories. I'm a bath story mastermind." Chloe, convincing me that she should go entertain her bathing sisters.
"We'll just have to remind them to remove the singing robots." Chloe, as Carter tried to convince her she shouldn't be afraid to ride Splash Mountain when we visit Disneyland this month.
"I hate my math book. It poisons my mind." Chloe, after being asked to complete her math homework.
"I had such a rough day that I think I'm going to die of roughness." Chloe, reflecting on a tough day at school that included a recess injury that required a visit from Mom.
"Whew! I have such a headache from using my brain all day!" Chloe, upon completing her homework after school.
"This land is free. But you don't let me be free!" Chloe, upon being denied access to a television program.
"I've had the fear of silence since I was three years old." No doubt!
"You might need to know Sadie needs more practice at that." Chloe, to her Aunt Katie after Sadie was told to be patient while Katie was driving.
"These sleeves are not pleasing to me." Chloe, trying on a dress with her aunt.
"Is Santa aware? It's not like I'm going for a coal collection." Chloe, after being told she could stay up past her bedtime at a sleepover party at her aunt's house.
"We get to pig out on french fries?!?" Chloe, speaking for her sisters, after being offered my leftover fries.
"Because I'm more smarter than some people!" Chloe, explaining why she only has to do part of her weekly spelling list. Touche, Chloe. Touche.

"I'm not a dress kind of girl." Chloe, on why she doesn't want to wear a dress to school.
"I got moved to Table 3. Now I'm boy-trapped!" Chloe, explaining her dire circumstances in school (she had to be moved because she was talking too much).
"Sorry about the racket, Daddy. We're laughing our heads off!" Chloe, after being confronted about the noise level in the playroom.
"I'm a person who is NOT a statue!" Chloe, after being commanded to hold still while getting her hair done.
"If only my hair weren't messy, I'd go watch them." Chloe, on the possibility of observing her father play basketball early one Saturday morning.

"I was just talking to the dentist today about the Chesire Cat's teeth! What a coincidence!" Chloe, happening upon her little sisters watching Alice in Wonderland (on the same day as her dental check-up).
"I hate these [jeans]. It looks like a bear scratched them." Chloe, casting aspersions on her distressed jean shorts.
"C'mon Piper! Let's go do a happy dance!" Chloe, upon learning some good news.
"Mommy!!!!! Piper's being a tattle-taaaaaaaale!!!!!" Chloe, from another room, in a whiny tone.
"I need a zipper for my mouth!" Chloe, brainstorming ideas about how to talk less "excessively" in class.
"I felt like Piper was making me be a mad machine today." Chloe, discussing why she kept getting in trouble for fighting with her sister.
"Mommy, you don't need to say anything else. I can tell how mad you are." Chloe, interrupting me mid-lecture (it was on why one should NOT dump out a laundry basket of folded laundry on the floor).
"Do you know why I didn't say 'Amen' ? Because my mouth was full of food." Chloe, after a blessing on dinner.
"I stick my finger up there all the time so I should be used to it." Chloe, upon learning she would be receiving her flu vaccine via a mist up her nose. The PA had to leave the room he was laughing so hard. He said it is definitely one of the Top Ten funniest things he's heard a kid say during his tenure in the office.
"Sure, I know what that is--a celebration with pies!" Chloe, when asked what a "python" is.
"I can't help it. I'm a 'why' person." Chloe, explaining why she has to follow everything I tell her to do with 1.5 million questions.
"Whoa! Tessa just did a firework of spit-up!" Chloe, describing her sister's gastrointestinal distress.
"Uh, Piper, do you know about cops?" Chloe, in response to Piper's request that Carter drive the car faster.
"I know. I'm a wild animal. You should take me to the forest now." Chloe, after she accidently banged into Tessa and was told she was being too wild (both Chloe and baby were bawling when this was uttered).
"Too bad you have to love your enemies." Chloe, after a lesson on the Beatitudes.
"Mommy, I can't go to sleep because a bad thing is worrying me. Is Mad Cow Disease contagious?" Chloe, calling from her bed.
